Toyota’s division, LLC “Toyota Motor,” has initiated a recall campaign for Land Cruiser 300 vehicles sold in Russia. The reason is potential issues with the crankshaft bearing, which could lead to reduced engine power or complete engine failure. The company has decided to replace the engines free of charge in all affected vehicles to resolve the problem and reduce risks for owners.
The defect has been identified in V35A family engines — these are 3.5-liter V6 engines with chain drive producing 415 hp. According to Toyota, during assembly, some engines may have been contaminated with machining debris — small particles that settle on rotating components. This increases engine load, causes bearing wear, and may result in knocking, unstable operation, or complete engine shutdown with the inability to restart.
The recall affects vehicles manufactured from April 26, 2021, to February 8, 2022. The exact number of affected vehicles has not been specified. Toyota emphasizes that this defect increases the risk of accidents, which is why the decision to replace the engines was made. The recall also confirms the company’s ongoing plans for the Russian market.
