Starting April 1, 2026, mandatory installation of the SOS button in cars imported into the Russian Federation may return. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is proposing to lift the moratorium early – and here's why:
The numbers speak for themselves:
- Since 2015, the ERA-GLONASS system has transmitted over 506,000 calls;
- 84% - automatically in case of an accident;
- 55% of automatic calls from remote roads where help might otherwise not arrive.
Currently, about 24% of Russia's vehicle fleet is connected to the system.
Authorities emphasize that this decision prioritizes safety, not an additional burden. According to them, price increases and equipment shortages are not expected.
