On Clean Energy Day, the Japanese showed the concept of the Ariya crossover with solar panels on the hood and roof. Their total area is 3.8 m2. The car accumulates energy not only in motion, but also when just standing in the sun.
The tests showed:
On a clear day, the panels add up to 23 km of mileage.
With an average daily mileage in the USA (64 km), this is no longer a "penny", but a real saving of charge.
Effectiveness is highly dependent on geography:
- London - about 10 km per day;
- Dubai - up to 21 km;
- There are no indicators for Moscow and Sochi yet, but there is clearly potential.
By the way, Nissan is not alone.
Back in the 2010s, Toyota offered a solar roof for the Prius, but it only had enough for interior ventilation. And modern startups like Aptera promise up to 65 km per day, but they haven't reached the series yet.
