The owner of an Aito M9 decided that autopilot equals personal driver. He got into the passenger seat while intoxicated and fell asleep, letting the car drive him.
The judge was clearly unimpressed with this idea. Furthermore, the man had previously been suspended for drunk driving, and he had installed a special device that tricked the driver monitoring system and simulated steering input.
As a result, the man received 45 days in prison and a fine of 4,000 yuan (approximately 44,800 rubles). It's unclear whether the driver's license was suspended after this incident. Formally, he had never driven drunk.
Such incidents are now common in China. For example, recently an Avatr 11 crossover almost drove a drunk driver home, but stalled in a tunnel.
